Analyst / Consultant / Senior Consultant Fundamental power market modelling - PLEXOS

Summary Elan is looking to expand the European team that undertakes client support, training and implementation for the PLEXOS power market modelling tool. If you have experience of fundamental market / dispatch / portfolio modelling in the power market, and/or a degree in operations research, engineering, or mathematics, then we are very keen to hear from you. Applications for an Analyst position by recent graduates are also very welcome. Our activities A key activity of Elan Energy Consulting is the licensing of the PLEXOS for Power Systems market modelling software. Within the wider European region, we undertake support, training, implementation, and sales & marketing. These activities are carried out within the framework of an international PLEXOS network, including a development centre in Australia and support bases in the USA, Australia, and Chile. PLEXOS is a market-leading power market simulator based around an LP/MIP unit commitment dispatch ‘core’. This ‘core’ is surrounded by various heuristics that control the simulated bidding behaviour, including game-theory algorithms. For further product information, please see the Knowledge Base at http://www.plexos.info. The European clients for PLEXOS include regulators, utilities, TSOs and consultancies. They are located in a variety of European countries, including Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, UK, Netherlands, Russia, and Czech Republic. The role Elan is expanding its European PLEXOS team, as part of a global effort to support a rapidly growing client base. Within this team we have vacancies for modellers with a range of experience, who will be closely involved in the above-mentioned activities. This includes client support, implementation, the provision of training, supporting marketing and sales, and product testing and development. You will have contact with clients in different parts of Europe. Although this position is initially office-based, opportunities for travel will arise once you have sufficient product expertise and experience. Your background Your background should include a good knowledge of linear programming (ideally a degree in Operations Research or Mathematics / Engineering to masters level), supplemented with some background in (micro-) economics. You will be numerate, have excellent spreadsheet skills, and are quick to learn. This is a client-facing role, and excellent verbal and written communications skills are required. Your English will be fluent; additional European languages (German, French, Spanish, Italian) are a strong advantage. Experience with the application and/or development of fundamental power market models is a requirement for a more senior position.
